The
National Hyperbaric Centre Ireland
The National Hyperbaric Centre (IRL) , is a 6000 sq/ft. Drive-In facility dedicated to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and owes its existence to several ordinary Irish people and a series of events which hastened the development of the Centre coupled with the proven medical fact that oxygen is the natural antibiotic of the body because white blood cells use oxygen to kill bacteria and accelerate the healing process. The first ‘Event’ happened when a man from Lismore figured out the relationship between pressure and volume. That man was Robert Boyle and 29 years before his death in 1691, the first Hyperbaric Chamber was up and running, yes…. Almost 350 years ago! O.k., maybe not so ordinary. The second set of events were……. A close friend had a spinal injury and eighteen months after his accident in 1994, with a small HBOT unit (Mono-place) which we purchased in 1996 and after extensive training, we were able to restore a quality of life which had been denied him when conventional remedial therapy had failed to improve his condition further. A family friend had contracted Ramsey Hunt Syndrome, an infection which resembles Bell’s Palsy, and under the guidance of the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine, IoM, in only 10 one hour treatments the Syndrome was gone, again restoring a quality of life which had been denied our friend for three months. This also included his ability to return to work during the first week of treatments! The “Cocktail of Prescribed Medicines,” were a bigger problem than the Ramsey Hunt Syndrome itself. Now as to the last three
Irish people in the equation, Ali & Des Quigley were
not about to let this Medical Marvel slip through their hands, so we
approached our partner in a joint city centre property development, to
construct for us, Ireland’s first purpose built Recompression
and Therapeutic Hyperbaric Facility…. He took our plans, told
us to leave it to him and delivered the finest HBOT
Facility we had ever seen on either side of the Atlantic.

The management and friends of the National Hyperbaric Centre (NHC) would like to thank PADI Americas for their support and good wishes. Their donation of $1000 from The PADI Chamber Endowment Fund is to date, the only contribution that this facility has received and for the positive reinforcement that their kind donation has given us, we are extremely grateful.
